Episode Recap
Haebom’s in disbelief that Sung Ho’s baby is a girl. When he starts shelving out unsolicited advice to the infant, Sung Ho reminds Haebom that his daughter is beautiful. Haebom says denies saying otherwise; in fact, he admits that she’s Sung Ho’s mini-me.
Suddenly, Haebom asks why Sung Ho decided to come to Nuldongjae village. He explains that since a TV drama was filmed in the area, a lot of people moved into the village. Most of the time, they moved into the very house Sung Ho was in. But once they got a taste of real rural life – the insects, bad-tempered seniors, and unpleasant odors – they didn’t last long. So villagers didn’t get attached to anyone that moved into the newer home.
But Yeonju’s different. Since he’s the only kid there, he tries to befriend any young people that go there. Sung Ho is the first to take Yeonju seriously, so although Haebom doesn’t know how long Sung Ho is going to stay, he’s thankful for his kindness to the young boy.
Elsewhere in the village, Yeonju’s made it home to his family’s farm and excitedly tells his grandma about Sung Ho. He tells her he overheard Sung Ho speaking on the phone in fluent English. As they continue talking, another farm hand is around the corner, listening to their conversation.
Later that night, Sung Ho’s reflects on his life growing up, while looking at a photo a friend sent him. Because he’s never had much to begin with, he didn’t feel like he was missing out on much. Now that he’s a father, Sung Ho worries if he’s going to be enough “family” for his daughter.
Unbeknownst to him, outside his gate, another village resident walks past his front gate and plops a black plastic bag on his stoop. Blood oozes from the bag as it settles.
My Takeaways
This little aside cracks me up. Towards the end of the episode, Sung Ho is reflecting on how helpful Haebom has been to him and his baby. He thinks, “Is this what it feels like to have a dad?” The little sea lion Haebom reaction! Too funny! I just love the humor of this series.
