RETELLING THE EPISODE

Mokhwa’s taking a cigarette break outside the flower shop, something that he hasn’t done for a long time. As he takes a drag of his cigarette, he questions why he involved himself in Nakwon’s business. Nakwon isn’t a subordinate nor is he a boss. They don’t have a defined relationship, so why help him?

He finishes his cigarette and goes back to the shop. When he sees Nakwon waiting inside, Mokhwa thinks Nakwon could die if he’s attacked for a second time. The thought makes Mokhwa uncomfortable. When Mokhwa enters, Nakwon doesn’t let him off the hook for leaving in the middle of their conversation. He nags him about taking a cigarettes break since he can’t smoke with his injury. Mokhwa quips that Nakwon shouldn’t have gotten stabbed. The comment sets Nakwon off on another rant.

The next day, Nakwon spends as long as possible at the station. He doesn’t want to show up too early to the shop, since Mokhwa will most likely chew him out again. However, his being at the station means more work for his subordinates. Lieutenant Seo, in an attempt to save everyone from Nakwon’s wrath, suggests that he go home and rest, but Nakwon refuses.

When he finally makes it to the shop, it’s around 8:30PM. Nakwon braces himself for the eventual berating from Mokhwa, but to his surprise, it never comes. Instead, Mokhwa tells Nakwon he’s glad he’s there. Confused, Nakwon watches as Mokhwa brings in the outside plants, signaling he’s closing up shop. He hands Nakwon a piece of paper and asks him to write down the cafe’s address.

EPISODE TAKEAWAYS

I want to know what Mokhwa means when he says that Gwangwoo and Nakwon are similar. I thought that was an interesting comparison, and I can’t think of how they would be. Maybe it’s because both men do whatever they want? I guess we’ll have to see.

It’s nice to see that Nakwon’s introspection continues. He’s thought a lot about his past actions and their consequences, and I’m glad to see it’s an ongoing process. At the station, Nakwon recognizes that he shouldn’t have snapped at Mokhwa during their argument yesterday. I don’t think Nakwon of season one would have had a similar line of thinking. Whenever Nakwon shows any kind of growth, he grows closer and closer to forgiveness… at least for me.

The thing I wonder about in this episode is the time between the argument and the next morning. When I originally read the episode, I assumed Nakwon went to his own place that night, since he mentioned that he and Mokhwa didn’t talk since the night before. But that’s not the case. So you’re telling me the two of them shared that tiny space and didn’t talk to each other for hours? I mean, sure most of those hours were sleeping hours, but still. That must have been hella awkward.
