RETELLING THE EPISODE

Karlyle is frozen in place. Seems that Ash finished his shower earlier than Karlyle was expecting and has now caught him trying on his clothes. How could Karlyle even begin to explain what he was doing? Before Karlyle can eke out an explanation, Ash asks him why he keeps doing things like this to arouse him. He goes on to admit that he’s already having a hard time holding back, and Karlyle is just making it even harder.

Confused, Karlyle responds that there’s no need for Ash to hold back. After all, Karlyle’s an Alpha too, so he understands how strong their natural urges are. Ash, however, disagrees. The last time they slept together, he made Karlyle cry. Suddenly, memories of that night flood Karlyle’s mind. That’s right… he did that in bed. How embarrassing. Yes, there were other reasons why Karlyle cried, like Ash mentioning other Alphas, but that was the most humiliating part.

Ash reassures Karlyle that what he did wasn’t dirty at all, though it doesn’t ease Karlyle’s concerns. Before they can do anything else, they’re interrupted by Karlyle’s phone. Resigned, Ash tells Karlyle that Karlyle has a really alluring yet very sensitive body, and until Ash is confident he won’t go overboard again, he’ll hold himself back.

Sometime later, Karlyle’s alone in the house since Ash has gone to work. Getting out of the shower, Karlyle remembers the missed call from earlier. He picks up his phone and sees that it was Alex Hader, his grandfather’s assistant, who called. When Karlyle returns the call, Alex tells him that his grandfather is in London and is requesting to see them. Both Karlyle Frost and Ash Jones.

EPISODE TAKEAWAYS

I had to think hard about whether we’ve seen Karlyle’s grandfather before in the series or we’ve just heard about him through the characters. But oh yes, we have. It was brief, but we’ve seen him a few times. The first time was early on in the series when Karlyle is at some sort of business meeting with his grandfather, and he gets distracted by a text from Ash. The second time is when Karlyle and Kyle go for a visit, and the grandfather mentions wanting to discuss Karlyle’s engagement.

I think those are the only two times, and I’m quite frankly too lazy to scroll through all 69 episodes to confirm whether I’m right. I think I also recall seeing him in a flashback scene where Karlyle’s mother and father are being scolded by him, but there wasn’t much else of him.

Anyway, my point in bringing this up is this: although we don’t see much of him, he is such a formidable and oppressive figure in the story. As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve read most of the DTR novel, so I know what’s coming, but these next few chapters are going to be quite intense.
