Jinx – Episode 34 Takeaways

Jaekyung finally defines for Heesung what his and Dan's relationship is. Dan is put in quite a compromising position... again.
Broadcast the Buzz:

This post is releasing a little later than normal because I needed to take a breather from this story. I’m not even doing a proper recap this time, just an abbreviated version:

Jaekyung continues to be pissy to everyone and everything without saying a word. When Dan is ready to go to work on Heesung again, Jaekyung stops him, saying Heesung cancelled. Since Dan is free now, Jaekyung decides he wants to do something with him. At the same time, unbeknownst to Dan, Jaekyung texted Heesung to come over. (I’m sure you can see where this is going). Heesung walks in on Jaekyung and Dan in a very compromising position (the understatement of the century), and Jaekyung threatens Heesung to keep away from Dan because Dan is his possession. Heesung rushes out of the place in complete disbelief… and probably feeling some disgust and fear too.

My Takeaways

I’m so tired. I don’t even know how to properly express my exhaustion with Jaekyung anymore.

I explained in this post how I really dislike “misery for the sake of misery” type of plotlines and how I normally drop those stories quick. Jinx is very close to falling into that category, but not for my typical reasons. This is episode 34. This manhwa releases every ten days, more or less. That’s 340 days of Jaekyung’s bullshit. Almost a whole year!

We’ve seen mere glimpses of the goodness that Jaekyung harbors within him. He saves Dan from the loan sharks and takes on his debt. He even lets Dan live with him and bring his grandma’s prized furniture with him. He visits Dan’s grandma when Dan misses the phone call from the hospital. He begrudgingly agrees to take a day off to rest his body when he could have outright refused. So we know he’s harbors kindness somewhere in him. Even though he’s twisted the explanation for all of these events into something for his own benefit, the fact of the matter is these events prove that he can be a decent human being.

But it’s been 34 episodes. THIRTY-FOUR. I’m not asking for him to suddenly turn a new leaf and be a complete angel. Maybe I’m just being impatient and Jaekyung’s comeuppance is right around the corner. Maybe even in the next episode! But my patience is wearing thin, and I don’t know how much longer I can keep reading.

Anyway, I’m curious to see what Heesung decides to do here. He said he is genuinely interested in Dan. In the beginning of the episode, he even tried to clarify with Jaekyung directly what their relationship was because he genuinely wants to pursue Dan. But after seeing that and being threatened by Jaekyung, will he still pursue Dan? Will Heesung try to take Dan out of the situation he’s in with Jaekyung? Will Heesung expose Jaekyung’s jinx to the general public? I guess we’ll just have to see.
