I love this story. I own both the light novels and the manga for My Happy Marriage. When I first heard it received its own anime adaptation, I was so excited to finally see the blossoming relationship between Kudo and Miyo animated. And so far, the anime has not disappointed.
I can tell just within the first few episodes that they’ve made very slight changes to the story line (like the timing of Kudo and Miyo’s first date in comparison to Kudo’s first brush with the shikigami following him), but so far, it hasn’t been anything drastic. Oh, they also changed the way Miyo’s step-mother looks. I think her looks in the anime suit her shitty personality much better, but the manga version of her was more accurate to the times IMHO.
The art is simply stunning. STUNNING. My favorite thing about it so far are Miyo’s eyes. They’re colored so beautifully, and they really display the complexity of her character. You can see the fear, anxiety, and hope she harbors because she has never felt so accepted before, but she feels it’s only fleeting and she’ll be kicked out as soon as Kudo knows the truth about her supernatural powers.
Another thing I have to mention is Yurie, Kudo’s only servant.
I. LOVE. HER.
I loved her in the manga and novel, and she is just as cute and peppy in the anime. Maybe even more so.
With the variety of scenes we’ve seen in the trailers, I think I have an idea of where the season will end. It’s going to be a crazy ride, and I’m so excited for it.
