The shopkeeper continues to berate Sungho outside of his store. He remarks that Sungho, in his opinion, should stop stealing and set a better example for others, given his age. Offended, Sungho finally stops the man, insisting that there’s been a mistake. He just moved in down the road, and never once has he thought about stealing. After that clarification, the shopkeeper lets Sungho into the store.
While shopping, Sungho overhears the store owner say aloud that a thief seems to be stealing only sweets from him. So, when Sungho is checking out, he asks the shopkeeper if he’s hiring. He suggests that the owner could use his help to prevent the thief from stealing again. The shopkeeper declines his request, leaving Sungho feeling dejected.
Just as he is about to leave, a large spider hanging outside the entrance startles Sungho. The store owner shoos the spider away and begins nagging Sungho again, reiterating that life in the countryside isn’t easy. At his breaking point, Sungho bluntly confronts the shop owner, calling him a jerk. As Sungho finally leaves, he expresses his hope to never encounter the man again.
Back at home, Sungho is still irritated from his earlier encounter with the rude shopkeeper. As he vents his frustrations while feeding his daughter, she puts her hand on his lips, almost like she’s signaling him to stop. Sungho takes the hint. Then, as the baby burps in his face, the two of them settle down for the night.
MY TAKEAWAYS
If I were Sungho, I’d be just as irritated if a complete stranger started making all kinds of accusations and assumptions about me. I wouldn’t have gone as far as calling him a jerk especially to his face, though. Sungho was quite brave for that.
It wasn’t an understatement that Sungho didn’t have a plan moving forward. He really just bought a house and moved. I mean, I’m sure he’s competent enough to do any job that comes his way. But what job would possibly allow him to bring his baby along? It’s not like he knows anyone that could babysit her while he was working, so he has no choice but to take her with him.
