Director Yoon doesn’t get it. Why is Yoosung so obsessed with finding out Hojin’s history? He’s been nothing but obedient, so why go through all this trouble? But she, of course, would never ask the Executive Director that to his face. She relays the results of the investigation into Hojin’s past, explaining how Hojin’s mother left his father when she was still pregnant and went into hiding. However, four years later, she took Hojin and his brother back to their father. There’s no evidence of domestic abuse, so it’s quite an odd situation. Director Yoon was also able to obtain Hojin’s dating history, and with how many pages Yoosung flips through as he’s looking at the list, it’s clear that it’s quite extensive.
Later at home, Yoosung is staring daggers into Hojin’s back. Hojin asks Yoosung if something is bothering him, and like a snotty little kid, Yoosung says it’s nothing for him to worry about. To make him feel better, Hojin offers to do a little dance for Yoosung, but he doesn’t take him up on it. I, personally, would have loved to see it. With still no reaction from Yoosung, Hojin resorts to offering him some drinks and snacks, and apparently, that was the right call because Yoosung’s interest is now piqued.
While the two drink and enjoy some hors d’oeuvres, Hojin suggests that they play The Truth Game since they’re curious about each other. They each get two questions, and they have to answer honestly. For his first question, Yoosung comes out of the gate swinging by asking Hojin how many people he’s dated. Hojin embarrassingly admits that it’s less than 30 people, but he points out that being in a lot of relationships means that he’s gotten dumped often.
Hojin asks if that’s what’s been bothering him lately. Is he concerned that Hojin is too tattered to be worth 400 million won? Yoosung admits that yeah, it’s been on his mind. And he also tells Hojin that he just used up his first question.
Now it’s Hojin’s turn, so he inquires about Yoosung’s first love. Yoosung dismisses it as a childish question and refuses to answer. For the Executive Director’s next question, he goes straight for the jugular again:
Why hasn’t Hojin asked his father for help?
Hojin declines to answer and the atmosphere turns sour. See, the game isn’t any fun if you don’t play by the rules. Yoosung decides to give in and answer Hojin’s earlier question. He admits that his first love was Prince Philip. Like Hojin, I thought Yoosung meant the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, but no, it’s the animated character Prince Philip from Sleeping Beauty. Then, he returns to his original line of questioning. Why didn’t Hojin contact his father? Is he waiting to use him as a trump card later? Yoosung asks:
Will you keep your leash in your hand and then leave me when you change your mind?
Ah. Hojin realizes that’s really what all this is about. It’s about Yoosung possibly losing control over Hojin.
To allay his fears, Hojin starts to tell him about his past and about his father. He begins with an incident where he hears odd sounds coming from his parents room. Hojin looks to be about four, so it couldn’t have been that long since they had returned to living as a family again. His brother tells him that their parents are probably trying to make another little brother, so Hojin being the innocent, naive little kid he is, wants to help. He goes to his parents’ room and… finds his mother smothering his father with a pillow. Scared, he runs away while someone is calling after him.
Poor Hojin. I can’t imagine what it’s like being that young and witnessing something that scary. Anyway, I’m looking forward to next week’s episode. I feel an in-depth Hojin backstory coming.
