EPISODE RECAP

Jaeshin tries to ignore Kyungjoon by walking right past, but Kyungjoon decides to start a conversation anyway. He brings up his recent visit with the crown prince, but before he can say much else, Jaeshin loses his patience. He grabs Kyungjoon by the collar and warns him to stay clear of the situation.

Jaeshin then throws Kyungjoon to the ground and walks away. As Kyungjoon rights himself, he’s in disbelief of Jaeshin’s attitude and demeanor. He doesn’t understand why the crown prince keeps protecting someone like him, but suddenly, something else catches his attention. He realizes that Jaeshin has the same scent emanating from him as the crown prince.

Back at the crown prince’s quarters, his highness is sweating bullets while reading. As he calls for one of his attendants to open the windows, Jaeshin appears behind him, blowing on the prince’s neck teasingly to cool him off.

Surprised, Nok says he wasn’t expecting Jaeshin tonight. His highness goes on to further that he can never predict Jaeshin’s actions and surprisingly, Jaeshin concedes that he doesn’t understand why he keeps doing things out of character. Jaeshin gets up, offering his hand to the crown prince and asks if he wants to take a stroll.

MY TAKEAWAYS

Kyungjoon’s a fascinating character for me because there’s no reason to hate him. Well, okay, his bigoted POV about gay relationships is something, but he’s a product of his times, so I can see why he would feel the way he does. Other than that, he’s shown no other red flags.

Jaeshin sees him as an enemy — to him, Kyungjoon is the reason why he doesn’t have Nok’s heart yet. After all, how can Jaeshin win the crown prince’s heart if he’s pining over his childhood friend? But because Kyungjoon isn’t aware of Nok’s feelings nor is he aware of Jaeshin’s quest to get back to the Underworld, there’s really no need for Jaeshin to be so harsh towards Nok’s childhood friend. Jaeshin may see him as one, but Kyungjoon isn’t even aware that he’s a rival.

And did I miss something? Jaeshin’s comment about Kyungjoon doing whatever he wants behind Nok’s back… I can’t recall anything of the sort in season one? Kyungjoon, as far as I can remember, has acted exactly as expected. He seems to genuinely care for the crown prince, and I hope it stays that way. The last thing I need is some kind of reveal that Kyungjoon’s been working for the queen. That would be absolutely devastating, imo.
